Joseph Level is an award winning radio personality and Director of Community Relations for 97.1 QMG and 1510 WEAL. Under his leadership, 1510 WEAL was the recipient of the inaugural Stellar Award for Radio Station of the Year in 2005. That same year, 1510 WEAL was also a top five finalist for the National Association of Broadcaster’s coveted Marconi Award for Radio Station of the Year. His sharp wit, energetic and transparent personality, combined with strong family and spiritual convictions have made him a household name in the triad. People often refer to him as “a part of their family”.
Born in Portsmouth, VA, and raised in Morganton, NC, he graduated from Freedom High School and attended the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
Level worked in corporate America before beginning his radio career in Greensboro at NC A&T WNAA 90.1 FM on a volunteer basis in 1989. It became his full time endeavor in 1992 while in Richmond, VA. He has been with 1510 WEAL and 97.1 QMG’s parent company, Entercom Communications, since moving back to the area in 1996.
Despite numerous awards, achievement, and accolades, Level feels his greatest accomplishment is found at home with his beloved wife, Sonia, a Hampton University graduate, and their family: Shanda, a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate and 8th grade math teacher at the Academy at Lincoln; Brittani, a 16 yr old Junior at Dudley Academy; Joseph III, a 15 yr old sophomore at Dudley Academy; Joshua, a 13 yr old 8th grader at the Academy at Lincoln; Jeremy, a 10 yr old 5th grader at the Academy at Lincoln; and 5 year old daughter, Jordan Brielle, who attends the NC A&T Child Lab. Level and his wife are members of Calvary Christian Center in Greensboro, NC..
